Introduction

Noom is one of the few rare health and wellness programs that is confident enough about its techniques to guarantee results. It uses a nice blend of behavioral change methods, as opposed to solely eating well and exercise, and mobile technology to drive meaningful health outcomes that last!

What to Buy

What makes Noom stand out is how well its health and wellness plans are designed and how well these plans are integrated with its app (available on both Android and iOS). The program also uses psychological techniques, such as having a Goal Specialist coach and various trackers, to help keep you on track and even gradually change your behavior, and hence, your lifestyle for the better.

Like all health and wellness program, Noom sells subscriptions to its program but before you can reach the subscription part, you’ll first need to do a short and simple survey to evaluate your current situation and to set your goals. Once done, you can then move on to designing your own plan by choosing which area to focus first, whether it is nutrition, physical activity, building good habits, etc.

Noom has an algorithm in place to help you calculate how long you’ll need to reach your target goal, and how much you’ll need to pay to stay in their program. Note that the cost varies from customer to customer depending on the answers they provide. Personally, through two slightly different surveys, I’ve found out that a 3-point BMI drop for females cost almost $50 per month but you’ll only have to pay for two months, while a 4-point BMI drop for males cost around $30 per month but you’ll have to pay for 3 months minimum. So, on average, you’ll probably be going to pay around $100 for a 3 to 4-point BMI drop.

Noom doesn’t provide you with a free trial but you can get a 14-day trial at the cost of only $1. There’s also apparently a Starter Fee of $20 when you sign up but if you completed the survey, you should be able to get a waiver. Most importantly, do take note that you’ll automatically be charged for the full quoted price for your customized program once the trial ends. From what I know, there’s no notification of any sort so you’ll need to keep an eye out yourself. The charges are also recurrent, so if your program is a 3-month program, then you’ll get charged the amount you’re quoted every 3 months.

However, if you think the program isn’t suitable for you, you can simply cancel it by contacting your Goal Specialist coach. Some users have reported that some of their coaches ignore their cancellation messages so to avoid that from happening, you should cancel while you still have several days left on your trial and to reach out to customer service as soon as you can – they may also need some time before they can get back to you. This is because – and you’ll want to take special note of this - Noom has a “No Refunds” (either for a partial month or the entire duration of the program) policy so if you get charged after your trial ends, it can be very difficult to get your money back.

Highlights

Noom’s health and wellness program is very unique and that’s in its own is the brand’s most prominent selling point. After all, why pay for a membership for some random wellness program that helps you to lose weight only to let you gain everything, and more, back again once you’ve “graduated” from the program when you can get lasting results with Noom?

Not to mention, the program has research from several prominent scientific journals to back its methods up. For instance, the British Medical Journal found 64% of Noom users lost more than 5 percent of their weight, while the Scientific Reports found that 78% of Noom users sustained weight loss over 9 months [1,2]. The University of Sydney’s Medical Center even ranked Noom (along with My Diet Coach Pro) as the number 1 weight loss program out of 800 programs they’ve evaluated [3].

Is It Time to Buy?

Health and wellness programs are a dime a dozen on the internet and everyone seems like an expert at first, but when it comes to delivering real lasting results, many of the riff-raff start dropping out. Noom is one of those few rare programs that are willing to bet on you the moment you sign up for its membership by putting actual money where their mouth is and help to ensure that you can get the lasting health outcomes you desire.
