Introduction
Los Angeles-based JibJab is a digital entertainment studio primarily known for their free and paid personalized eCard and messaging services that are usually humorous, satirical, and irreverent in nature. Their most popular item is their “Starring You” eCard where you can superimpose faces onto an animated or music video-based digital card which you can email or share via social media.
What to Buy
When JibJab was founded in 1999 by brothers Evan and Gregg Spiridellis initially as a traditional entertainment outfit specializing in political and social satire, little did they know that their little studio would spearhead the concept of humorous short-form video “internet memes” years before they would bombard our inboxes, screens, feeds, timelines, and walls. Being one of the first visionaries to recognize how revolutionary the Internet would become in inspiring new forms of entertainment with their astutely prescient belief in the potential of online videos and animated GIFs; the Spiridellis brothers can, thus, be considered one of the influential pioneers of the modern “meme”.
After its founding, JibJab achieved widespread fame during the 2004 US presidential election when their animated video of George Bush and John Kerry singing This Land Is Your Land became a viral hit. Now focused on its flagship personalized eCard and messaging services since 2007, JibJab is a thriving studio and portfolio of brands backed by over 80 artists, engineers and business people in the heart of LA’s Silicon Beach, as well as a distributed network of hundreds of artists around the world.
Its main product is its line of personalized eCards and videos that let users insert photographs of their faces into humorous birthday cards, holiday greetings, and congratulatory notes called Starring You. The Starring You eCards are a mix of exclusively created animated and live-action shorts as well as videos arranged from clips licensed from a wide variety of artists, music videos, movies, TV shows, and other sources, including occasional partnerships with brands like OfficeMax, as well as popular entertainment franchises such as Star Wars and Mad Men.
To see all of the fun eCard collections on offer for all kinds of occasions, simply visit JibJab.com or download the JibJab App for iPhone or Android and browse selections according to categories for Celebrate (Birthdays, Anniversary, Wedding & Engagement, Graduation, Baby); Holidays (Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Hanukkah, St. Patrick’s Day, etc.); and Greetings (Love, Thanks, You Rock, Sorry, Get Well, Congrats, Cheer Up, and more). There are also cards for fun themes such as Music Videos, Movie Spoofs, Sports, and Dances.
To make a JibJab Starring You eCard, first find a card you would like to send and then click on a card to see a preview. The next page will show you a full preview of the video without faces. You will then be able to listen to the song, see the mouth movements on the characters' faces, and see the greeting at the end of the video.
If you like the card, click the “Make Card” button to customize it. You will then enter the “Casting Page” wherein you click the face you would like to cast for space one or click the plus button to add a new face (if the card has more than one head). Follow the instructions on how to add a photo, scale the size of the head, and create a moving mouth on your photo(s) before saving it.
Once all the heads are cast, click “Next” to upload your photos. Once you have created a personalized card, you will be able to preview the video on the "Share" and "Add Message" screen. This preview gives you a chance to make sure the faces are on the correct bodies and the mouths are moving the way you want them to. If something doesn't look right, you can just hit the "Back" button on your browser to re-cast the card.
If the video is to your liking, you can watch your completed JibJab Starring You eCard as well as click on the "Add Message" button to add a personal message. Finally, click the "Share" button to share the card via Email or Facebook, or copy a direct link to the card. After you send the eCard from the JibJab site, you will receive an email confirmation that the card has been sent.
If you have a JibJab account, you can also check the status of your eCards from the "My Ecard" page on their website. Another way to monitor your eCard's status is to enter your own email address as a recipient. That way you can verify that the emails are being sent. You can then forward the emails to your recipients. Meanwhile, if you have any more questions, you can simply shoot an email at help@jibjab.com and their creative team will be happy to assist you.
There are two ways to create and send a JibJab eCard: Free and premium Paid membership.
