Introduction

Eastern Mountain Sports (or EMS) is an American outdoor clothing and equipment retailer selling products from both name brands and its own exclusive EMS line. It currently has 15 locations, an e-commerce store, and EMS Schools offering classes in kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, avalanche training, rock and ice climbing, trekking, and skiing.

What to Buy

Eastern Mountain Sports, more stylistically known as EMS, has been selling affordable hiking, climbing and paddling gear, outdoor clothing, and camping equipment and accessories, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags and sport-specific outdoor apparel lines since its founding in 1967. Primarily serving the New England and Northeastern US market, it has recently focused on its online retailing operations in order to serve a larger audience nationwide.

To shop on EMS.com, rely on the static main menu at the top of each page directing you to categories for Men, Women, Kids, Shoes, Camp/Hike, Snow, Climb, Activities, Car Racks, Brands, Sale, and Outlet. Also, on the homepage, you can find sections highlighting Daily Deals, Active Promotions, Featured Products, and expertly produced Video Guides (such as travel journals to the beautiful Northeast, gear tutorials, adventure tips and tricks, and more).

Like most other outdoor apparel and equipment retailers, EMS’ most popular categories are those for Men, Women, and Kids apparel and accessories. From their main links, you can browse through Jackets (for rain, casual, wind, running, insulated, fleece, ski, down, etc); Clothing (used on their own or for layering, these include shirts, pants, swimwear, hoodies & sweatshirts, base layers, vests, socks, and shorts); Shoes (boots and shoes for hiking, running, or casual use), and Accessories (hats, gloves & mittens, and socks).

With the Adirondack, White, and Green Mountains close to their base of operations, it is no wonder why EMS is a prime supplier of outdoor sporting gear in the region. They carry a complete line of Camp/Hike equipment to make your adventure a safe and comfortable one, including all styles of backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, water bottles and purifying implements, camp kitchen tools, navigation, portable electronics and power supplies, lighting, sunglasses, and more.

EMS is also a great place to get all your Snow and Climb gear when you’re headed up to Whiteface in New York or Smuggler’s Notch in Vermont for a sporty winter holiday with its extensive inventory of snow sports, cross country and backcountry skiing equipment, shoes, and accessories; climbing shoes, rope, cords, harnesses, and hardware; as well as essential clothing.

For summer Activities the store carries one of the best selections of Paddling equipment around, such as kayaks, paddleboards, paddles, safety gear, lifejackets, clothing & footwear, dry bags, and other accessories.

Meanwhile, to transport all of your outdoor equipment to the slopes or the lake, EMS’ Car Racks section offers a wide range of carrying systems to fit most car makes and models such as cargo carriers, ski racks, paddle sport racks, bike racks and accessories, and other rack systems.

Highlights

Standard shipping on EMS carries a flat rate of $7.99 within the contiguous United States with 3-7 business days expected for delivery. Orders shipping to Alaska & Hawaii will be charged a $12.99 flat rate, while orders shipped to US Territories & APO/FPO addresses also cost $12.99 but will arrive within 2-4 weeks. EMS also offers 2-Day Express Shipping, Overnight, Saturday Delivery, and Canadian Post via USPS & UPS.

Due to size, weight and handling considerations, some oversized products will carry a surcharge in addition to the general shipping rate. These products will be marked as such on the product page and will display in your shopping cart with the surcharge added. Certain oversized items, such as kayaks, stand up paddleboards, cargo boxes, etc can only be shipped via a freight shipping or common carrier service and may require 1-2 days additional processing time before they ship.

Meanwhile, EMS has a very forgiving Returns & Refunds policy valid for up to one year after purchase. If the item is unused, has its original packaging and tags, and includes the original store receipt or web invoice, you can return it for credit within one year of purchase (used, worn or washed, and items sold “As-Is” are not eligible for return or exchange at any time). Returns made within 60 days of purchase will be refunded to the original form of payment. Returns made after 60 days and up to one year after purchase as well as returns accompanied by a gift receipt will be refunded as merchandise credit.

And if you are a frequent shopper at EMS, enroll your email address to their EMS Rewards Program to earn points from purchasing online or in-store. Earn 200+ points and a Reward will be issued with a code that can be applied towards your next purchase. Rewards can be used on any brand, full-price, sale or clearance items. A Rewards membership also gives you access to email updates on special promotions, new product announcements, gift ideas and more; order tracking and history; faster checkouts with your saved billing and shipping information; and exclusive Birthday Rewards.

With EMS.com, it doesn’t matter whether you’re from the Northeast or the Southwest, you can get your outdoor adventure equipment and apparel for every season of the year at affordable prices. And with a great return and refund policy good for one year, you can be assured of easy returns just in case you need to postpone your adventures for any reason at all.
